One-Off Tutorial: £50

One-off tutorials can consist of whatever the student requests. We can focus on one particular technique or split the tutorial into halves, each looking at a different aspect of fiction writing. This can consist of long-form discussion and exercises performed in real-time over video call, in which we can utilise screen sharing for live editing sessions. Tutorials are a minimum of 90 minutes. I will make myself available via email to answer further writing-related questions and look at short examples for two weeks following the tutorial itself.

I also provide assistance for applications and portfolios for UK-based creative writing degrees at the same price point.

Additional Reading & Feedback Fee: £10 per 1000 words
*

Often, however, a student will want to work on their own writing during the session. This requires an additional reading & feedback fee of £10 per 1000 words of fiction. This fee guarantees I will read your work as many times as I need to in order to write a detailed feedback report of a minimum of 500 words, to be given to you at the end of the tutorial. The report will be delivered in a legible, well-formatted PDF, along with annotations to the original document, and will include suggestions for actionable strategies towards improvement, written in unambiguous terms (ie, I will never comment to the effect of saying that this needs to be more ‘X’ without suggesting a technique that will achieve ‘X’ and providing practical examples). This is a one-time fee for each new piece of writing. If a student books three sessions and wants to work on a different story/chapter during each session, each £50 tutorial requires an additional reading & feedback fee. However, if a student books three sessions and wants to work on the same story/chapter during each, I will read any modified, edited, or re-written versions and provide additional feedback at no extra cost.

*This service is only available for those booking tutorials. I do not offer reading & feedback services alone.

Block-Booked Mini Courses: £300 for six sessions

Block-booked mini courses, like one-off tutorials, can consist of whatever the student requests. In most cases, however, the assumption is that the student will want to work on their own writing in these sessions. For those wishing to block book a mini course, all reading & feedback fees are waived, making a saving of up to £150. These sessions can be planned collaboratively ahead of time, or can be developed in real-time as we move through the sessions. All ongoing students are entitled to email me any time during their ongoing sessions with writing-related questions.

Q: How frequently should I book my tutorials?

This depends on your availability and how much free-time you have to write between sessions. One per week would likely be too rushed for those with busy lives. I would recommend booking tutorials anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks apart, giving yourself time to implement the previous session's feedback, but not so long as to lose momentum.

Subsidised Tuition

I also offer subsidised tuition at significantly lower rates for writers on very low incomes, Universal Credit, or those experiencing homelessness, significant legal troubles, or any other difficult financial/life circumstances that might prevent someone from accessing higher education or private tutoring services. Sessions can be exactly as those outlined above, but can also include more casual advice and discussion sessions regarding access to higher education, writing practice, or any other relevant subjects.

Sessions are a minimum of 1 hour in all cases, but can go on for longer if necessary, time permitting. Unfortunately, I must ask that all fees be paid ahead of time. Once the fees are paid, a date for your tutorial can be scheduled, along with any required reading & feedback on my end.

Business Hours

Tutorials can take place at your convenience. This includes weekdays, evenings, and weekends, from 10am-10pm. Subject to availability and dependent on my other pre-booked tutorials throughout the week.
